Your liver is arguably the most important organ in your body. It’s in charge of dealing with toxins, distributing nutrients, and is an essential part of the immune and endocrine systems. Your liver does an awful lot, shouldn’t you do a little something for your liver? So what should you do for optimal liver health?
Increase organically grown Plant-based foods in your diet
Digesting meat and animal fat is pretty hard work for your liver, so try reducing your meat intake and eating more beans, nuts, and seeds instead. Organic foods have no added petrochemicals or pesticides, so when you eat organic, you’re eating fewer toxins that the liver has to filter out and store. Your body needs fats and proteins, but avoid trans-fats. Instead, try getting your fat intake from fish, coconut oil, or avocados.
Try Turmeric root
Turmeric root is an herb that’s good for pretty much everyone, and it’s especially good for the liver. It aids digestion, especially of fats, and supports liver and gall bladder function. It also reduces inflammation on the body, which can reduce stress on all the organs, including the liver and digestive system.
Keep to a healthy weight and exercise regularly
Yes, we hear it all the time, but it’s true. Staying fit and active helps all your organs and body systems stay healthy and strong. Walking, swimming, team sports, pretty much any activity will do as long as it gets your heart pumping for 30 minutes 3 or more times per week.
Limit your use of alchohol and over-the-counter pain medications
More than one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men can put strain on your liver. Excessive drinking, like chronic obesity, can lead to hardening of the liver tissue, a very serious condition. Over-the-counter pain medications like acetametaphin or ibuprofen can stress the liver, too. Even using these drugs according to package directions can be harmful.
