Men of all ages are the focus of Saturday’s class as we focus on herbs to nurture the Male Reproductive system such as Saw Palmetto, Damiana & Nettle Root. We’ll be going over conditions such as benign prostatic hypertrophy, prostatitis, low libido and general male tonics to boost energy and endurance.
Saturday, Feb 5th:
10 am-12 pm: Male Reproductive System, Tonics for Young Men
This class focuses on both Western herbal & TCM approaches to men’s health, exploring fertility issues, prostatitis as well as formulation of longevity tonics. The materia medica will cover herbs such as Panax Ginseng, Damiana, Sarsaparilla, Yohimbe and Tribulus, classically used to boost energy and tonify the male reproductive system.
1-3 pm: Male Reproductive System, Tonics for Mature Men
This afternoon class is an overview of Western herbal approaches for conditions often seen in older men such as benign prostatic hypertrophy and libido issues. We will focus on herbal rejuvenation with recipes such as Eleuthero and Withania stamina snack balls. The herbal materia medica will cover Withania, Saw Palmetto, Nettle Leaf and Root, Pumpkin seeds and herbs containing steroidal saponins.
Sunday, Feb 6th:
10 am-12 pm: Herbs for the Urinary System
In accordance with classic Western Herbalism, which links the kidneys with the reproductive systems of men & women, this class will cover common urinary conditions for both sexes. Beginning with introduction to the urinary system, herbal actions and herb profiles for these systems will be examined including such favorites as Cranberry, Uva Ursi, Marshmallow, Couch Grass, and Corn Silk. We will cover urinary infections, incontinence and interstitial cystitis.
1-3 pm: Herbs for the Kidneys & Hydrotherapy
In the afternoon we will look more closely at the dual role of the adrenals and kidneys, covering such herbal favorites as Juniper, Gravel Root, Hydrangea, Golden Rod, Pellitory and Cordyceps and as well as a look at kidney stones, and lowered kidney function. We will finish up the day with the age-old techniques of hydrotherapy including therapeutic sitz baths, steams, foot soaks and inhalations. The historical methods still work wonders for everything from blocked sinuses, BPH, fibroids, chest infections and skin issues.

Come and join our Foundations of Herbalism Certification at MASH at our home at the Smile Herb Shop. This certification course is currently taught online via Zoom in executive format, one (1) weekend (Saturday & Sunday, 10 am-12 pm, 1-3 pm) each month (except August) with a follow –up study group webinar 1 ½ weeks after the weekend classes. Assignments and study between classes are required for certification. Classes are recorded so they can be made up if missed. This advanced course also consists of 1 weekend a month, over a period of 11 months and concentrates on protocols and a clinical component. If both years are completed with accompanying assignments and case studies, students receive a Certificate of Advanced Therapeutic Herbalism or a Diploma of Clinical Therapeutic Herbalism (depending on clinic choices).
