Foundations of Herbalism – Season of Winter/Water Weekend 2 (Female Reproductive Health & Herbal Pediatrics)
Stay healthy and happy this season and beyond, and discover herbal therapies for female reproductive health and pediatric care!
Saturday, Jan. 4th: The Female Reproductive System & Herbal Pediatrics
On Saturday, we’ll be covering herbal actions such as female hormonal regulators, galactagogues, uterine tonics, and astringents such as Red Raspberry Leaf, Vitex, Shatavari, Dong Quai, and other herbs that normalize function and strengthen the whole system. We’ll also look at herbal blends for female issues often seen in the earlier years such as dysmenorrhea (period pain), irregular periods, and endometriosis.
Finally, we’ll finish off the days by looking at specific remedies for children. We’ll formulate herbal blends that target common conditions such as colic, teething, colds and fevers and figure out ways to make herbs taste good enough so that kids want to take them!
Sunday, Jan. 5th: The Female Reproductive System & Herbal Strategies
On Sunday, we’ll focus on herbal strategies for both young and mature women. We’ll look at dietary and lifestyle solutions as well as specific phyto-steroidal and female regulating herbs such as Kudzu, Maca, and Black Cohosh.
We’ll explore at herbal blends used during pregnancy and for conditions such infertility as well as those commonly seen in older women such as vaginal infections and dryness, fibroids, peri-menopausal and menopausal issues including weight gain, memory loss and thyroid dysregulation.

Come and join our Foundations of Herbalism Certification through the Mid-Atlantic School of Herbalism at the Smile Herb Shop. This certification course is taught in executive format, one (1) weekend (Saturday & Sunday, 10 am-5 pm) each month (except August). Assignments and study between classes are required with some online content. A study group via web-conference is available once a month between classes. Classes are recorded, so if missed can be made up. The one-year program leads to a Foundations of Herbalism Certificate.
For those who are interested in clinical practice, students can continue on for a second year of study to gain a Professional Herbalism Certification. This advanced course also consists of 1 weekend a month, over a period of 12 months with the final 6 months, being a clinical component. If both years are completed with accompanying assignments and case studies, students receive a Diploma of Clinical Therapeutic Herbalism.
