Foundations of Herbalism – Season of Winter/Water Weekend 3 (Male Reproductive Health, Urinary Health, & Hydrotherapy Workshop)
February 1st: The Male Reproductive System
Men of all ages are the focus of today’s class as we focus on herbs to nurture the Male Reproductive system such as Saw Palmetto, Damiana, & Nettle root. We’ll be going over conditions such as benign prostatic hypertrophy, prostatitis, low libido, and general male tonics to boost energy and endurance. The class includes recipes and samples of Ginseng-Withania stamina snack balls and Damiana-Sarsaparilla longevity tonic.
February 2nd: The Urinary System & Hydrotherapy Workshop
In accordance with classic Western Herbalism, which links the kidneys with the reproductive systems of men & women, this class will cover common urinary conditions for both sexes. Beginning with introduction to the urinary system, herbal actions and herb profiles for these systems will be examined including such favorites as Cranberry, Uva Ursi, Marshmallow, Couch Grass, and Corn Silk. We will cover urinary infections, incontinence and interstitial cystitis.
We will finish up the day with the age-old techniques of hydrotherapy including therapeutic sitz baths, steams, foot soaks and inhalations. The historical methods still work wonders for everything from blocked sinuses, BPH, fibroids, chest infections and skin issues.

Come and join our Foundations of Herbalism Certification through the Mid-Atlantic School of Herbalism at the Smile Herb Shop. This certification course is taught in executive format, one (1) weekend (Saturday & Sunday, 10 am-5 pm) each month (except August). Assignments and study between classes are required with some online content. A study group via web-conference is available once a month between classes. Classes are recorded, so if missed can be made up. The one-year program leads to a Foundations of Herbalism Certificate.
For those who are interested in clinical practice, students can continue on for a second year of study to gain a Professional Herbalism Certification. This advanced course also consists of 1 weekend a month, over a period of 12 months with the final 6 months, being a clinical component. If both years are completed with accompanying assignments and case studies, students receive a Diploma of Clinical Therapeutic Herbalism.
